Aptly named, Picture windows resemble a large picture frame. These windows are “fixed” meaning, they do not open. They are often used in large openings because they offer an unobstructed view to the outside. Smaller picture windows are used as exterior transoms above a window. They can also be used to flank a door for architectural interest.  

It is common to see picture windows installed in hard-to-reach places, like a vaulted ceiling, to let in light. These energy efficient windows can also be paired with operable styles to allow for ventilation.
